I have completed the translation of the last of all the NIGHT AND THE CONTINUING FALLING VERSES by LVT mid December last year, I wanted to wait till next month to mark the 40 years anniversary of my family’s exiled from Vietnam. But, perhaps there will never be an appropriate time to share such pain. I hope you may find it as cathartic as I have through the process of translating and reading the verses, I hope you will be able to purge the pain you’ve carried all this time.
I hope, I pray, that my fellow exiled, I wish upon the closure we are all looking for, I am with you in the most humblest way I know. Through the bridging verses of a poet I call friend, through someone who had stayed. He has rebuilt for himself a life through all the heartache and unbearable unimaginable pain, together with those of our country men.
I wish you peace in your heart

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

April

the country lay on a long bench

sleeping

dreaming

for a bunch of centuries.

_____

tháng 4

đất nước nằm trên một băng ghế dài

ngủ

mớ

đã nhiều thế kỷ…

There's magic in translating a body of work from one language to another.
