Nguyễn Hoài Phương | an afternoon consumed (4)

A poem by a German – Vietnamese poet.

twenty three degree dusk
hid the sun behind the clouds
the steely wind mesmerizing
to the rim the good wine poured

By Nguyễn Hoài Phương, translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

an afternoon consumed

twenty-three degrees dusk

hid the sun behind the clouds

the steely wind mesmerizing

to the rim, the good wine poured

the earth inebriated by the sky

on its side the sunlight

I’m drunk beneath the early afternoon rain

while she’s up in heaven, high

uống chiều

nhp

chiều hai mươi ba độ

che mặt trời sau mây

gió đồng như mê hoặc

rượu ngon rót chén đầy

đất say trời nghiêng ngả

nắng say mưa sớm chiều

ta say nơi trần thế

em say nơi thiên đàng
