By Lê Vĩnh Tài, translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

every Monday morning

he’s there

consumed his perfectly fried egg, sunny side up

read the paper

.

he never swims

but stood by

a boulder deep in the bushes

in the shallow

.

from afar he

watches through his binoculars

the people leaving

with only swimmers

on their back

the same rendezvous

upon abstraction

holds onto

the bleached white

bones

.

his tears, fully aware

ran

the length

of time

adamantly

thoughtful

.

the pitiful

charity

beyond

blood and bone.

_____

mỗi sáng thứ Hai

ông ở đó

ăn món trứng ốp-la hoàn hảo

đọc vài tờ báo

ông không bao giờ bơi

chỉ đứng

kế bên tảng đá tít trong

rừng, chỗ nước rất nông

ông

lấy ống nhòm

từ xa, nhìn mọi người

chỉ còn bộ đồ tắm

cứ điểm

lao lên

mũi tên

lãng quên

nắm xương

trắng xoá

nước mắt ông, nó cũng biết

chảy xuống

dài theo

thời gian

miên man

suy nghĩ

bố thí

những điều

hơn cả

máu xương…
