By Lê Vĩnh Tài, translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

perhaps September

may cross into October

painfully we stared at each other

spelling out: u, bl blue

the fall fading

.

since summer means

we shall wait for each other

till fall

.

as her eyes

looked

in two nights

bright

and baffled quite…

_____

có thể tháng chín

đã sang tháng mười

chúng ta nhìn đau đớn

đánh vần: anh, xờ anh xanh

màu xanh của lá

mờ dần mùa thu

vì mùa hè có nghĩa

chúng ta sẽ chờ nhau

đến tận thu vàng

như mắt nàng

nhìn

2 đêm

vừa sáng suốt

vừa hoang mang…

There's magic in translating a body of work from one language to another.
