Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm | BẠN (270)

I was born 1971, Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. My family and I were a part of the first exodus of boat people after the Vietnam war. In March 1981, we settled in Sydney, Australia. I graduated with a bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney. I have been translating Vietnamese literature for the past five years in my search to better understand my mother’s language and culture. My translations have been shared through blogging over the past year. I am still a registered pharmacist practicing in Western Sydney. I hope to continue translating, and continue to share Vietnamese art and literature, beyond borders on SONGNGUTAITRAM.

Lê Vĩnh Tài | You’re washed away. Along with the past. (333)

__________
How do you end the vicious cycle of sexual violence?
It’s simple, you leave it, you cut your tides with it. Why would you follow an institution that treat 50% of the population like meat? Something that is consumed and thrown away like garbage.
Vietnamese women are the backbone of society in Vietnam, while their men spend half of their time in cafes and bars.
Women are not just flowers, we bear the seeds which have given birth to generations of men.
Indeed, I feel disgusted, I pity your mother, your wife, your daughters, and especially your SONS, who will grow up to be exactly like you.
Like the taste of bile just there in my mouth!
Trâm.
