Nguyễn Bính | My poetry (1)

Nguyễn Bính (1918-1966) the Vietnamese poet born Nguyễn Trọng Bính, in Thien Vinh village, Vu Bang District, Nam Dinh province, Vietnam. He lost his mother at a young age, learned to read and write at home, and started to write poetry from the age of 13, won the Poetry Consolation Prize from Tự lực văn group in 1937 with the collection of poems called My heart and soul. A committed supporter of the August Revolution, he moved to the resistance base in Đồng Tháp Mười leading a literature and arts unit. Later he was editor of the semi-independent poetry magazine Trăm hoa, Hundred Flowers.

Xuân Diệu (2/2/1916 – 18/12/1985) born Ngô Xuân Diệu, Trảo Nha was another pen name, from Trảo Nha village, Can Lộc district, Hà Tĩnh province, but he was born in his mother’s hometown Hoà Phước commune, Tuy Phước district, Bình Định province, where his father Ngô Xuân Thọ worked as a teacher and where his father met his mother Nguyễn Thị Hiệp. he lived in Tuy Phước till he was 11 years old(1927) before moving to Quy Nhơn for school. Around 1936-1937, he attained his baccalaureate in Huế. In 1937, Xuân Diệu studied Law in Hà Nội while he wrote for a newspaper, between 1938-1940 inclusively he was a member of Tự lực văn đoàn, in the same period shared an attic with Huy Cận at 40 Hàng Than.

It took me more than 40 years to realize a favourite lullaby my mum used to sing was a poem by Huy Cận. I remembered simply as “don’t worry mamma will take care of everything”.
Here’s to sharing a piece of my childhood.

Vincent Willem van Gogh | hồn anh là cả đại dương

Vincent Willem van Gogh, born 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands and died 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise. He was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.
