Lê Vĩnh Tài | MY HOMELAND A HUNDRED YEARS AGO – 9

night
dampening mother’s yoke
rainy days dampened the Phí’s wings(4)
returning to eggs nesting shivering
chicks rotting in the cold
soundly asleep in the communal tomb

Lê Vĩnh Tài | MY HOMELAND A HUNDRED YEARS AGO – 8

night
Krông Ana crystal clear at the intersection
Krông Knô muddy
blood on one side the other tears
glancing at the other bank
eyes bloodshot in each fist of sand
burying an image of arms wide open in feral grass
legs wide open closed in by the rain
your damp wet body, child
high are both hills
and a borough a rat’s nest

night
if we were the rising Sun
a Sun sketched on paper long ago
each time redder
each time more hurtful
night what more do you want?

night
resounding in the sightless borough
your eyes, child
but the dream is not yours

the truth is the smoke in a forest burning

night
the deadly verses
deadly laughter
born with both eyes closed (*)
now has your face child
water radiating from cold lips
——–
(*): both eyes closed
you’re radiating light from within
a sightless boulder

flying
mother warned us about the traps
there may be dangling nets
flying may not mean yearning of a different horizon
horizons often in a sudden
may not mean flying
